GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - Former Campbell County Fire Department Chief Don Huber will receive nearly $87,000 as part of a severance agreement with the county’s Joint Powers Fire Board.

Huber submitted a notice of immediate retirement after a contentious fire board meeting that saw some volunteer firefighters call for the removal of the department’s top leadership.

Some of the problems cited included a hostile working environment, low morale, lack of trust, poor communication, lack of respect for staff from leadership and safety concerns.

The Gillette News Record reports (https://tinyurl.com/q39lgzh) that the Joint Powers Fire Board voted unanimously with little discussion this past week to approve Huber’s severance package.

The fire board is conducting a search for a new fire chief, and an acting chief has been named.
