PALATINE, Ill. (AP) - A fire at a home in the northwest Chicago suburb of Palatine has killed a 63-year-old woman and critically injured her daughter.

Two neighbors were injured while trying to help before firefighters arrived and had to be hospitalized. Other neighbors tried to enter the home but were pushed back by the smoke.

Firefighters found the woman and her daughter with severe burns. They were taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The mother was pronounced dead and her daughter was airlifted to the burn unit at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause.
