MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont lawmakers expect to adjourn this weekend even though a showdown over taxes could be looming.

Late Friday night legislators said they were on track to adjourn late Saturday with a plan to raise about $10 million more than Gov. Peter Shumlin wants to.

The fight centers over lawmakers’ plan to cap itemized deductions for things like mortgage interest, property taxes and moving expenses.

Shumlin wants to leave those deductions intact. If he vetoes the plan, lawmakers would have to return for a special session to consider an override.
