WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania man has been formally sentenced to death in the throat-slashing murder of his estranged girlfriend three years ago.
Jurors in Washington County convicted 26-year-old Jordan Clemons of Pittsburgh of first-degree murder and then decided after three hours of deliberation that he should be executed.
Prosecutors said the naked body of 21-year-old Karissa Kunco (KUN’-soh) was found covered with brush and a tree stump in January 2012 in Mount Pleasant Township. They said Clemons had persuaded Kunco to meet with him after threatening suicide as she tried to end the relationship.
The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (https://bit.ly/1EPk0HA ) reports that Judge Gary Gilman sentenced Clemons on Friday and told him “May God save your soul.” As the defendant left the courtroom, he told the judge “God bless you too.”
