BLACK ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The new U.S. 63 bridge over the Black River at Black Rock is now open to traffic.

Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department Engineer Walter McMillan told The Jonesboro Sun (https://bit.ly/1FkE3kL ) that traffic began crossing the bridge shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

Work to replace the previous bridge began after inspectors in February 2011 found it was rapidly deteriorating.

Barricades are in place to keep traffic off the old bridge and McMillan said workers now have 75 work days to remove it.
