HILLSDALE, N.Y. (AP) - New York police say a woman on an upstate farm has been charged with animal neglect.

State police said Saturday they found that 10 horses and three calves on the farm in Hillsdale, near the Massachusetts border, were not receiving proper care.

They said Marjorie Hansen of Hillsdale was arrested and arraigned this week on 13 counts of failing to provide sustenance, under the state’s agriculture and markets law. She is due back in court Wednesday.

Police said they had no record of how Hansen pleaded or who represented her. The Town of Hillsdale Justice Court was closed Saturday.

The horses and calves are in the care of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
