COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio will hold life jacket safety sessions at several state parks to kick off National Safe Boating Week.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the Saturday events are intended to emphasize the importance of wearing life jackets when boating.

Watercraft officers at five state parks will give life jacket safety talks, fit participants for jackets and coordinate a group photo. The sites include Buck Creek, East Fork, Maumee Bay, Mosquito Lake and West Branch state parks

The National Safe Boating Council and the Canadian Safe Boating Council also are inviting the public to participate in the annual “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Life Jacket World Record Day. Participants around the world try to set a world record for the most life jackets worn and inflatable life jackets inflated.
