DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities investigating the deaths of a suburban Detroit police officer and his friend have ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning and a murder-suicide.

State police Lt. Mike Shaw tells The Detroit News “everything else is on the table” as investigators await autopsy results for 44-year-old Dearborn Heights police Sgt. John Burdick and 45-year-old James McEwen.

Autopsies were expected to be performed Saturday.

Their bodies were found Friday morning in the detached garage at McEwen’s Dearborn Heights home. The men were friends.

Shaw said foul play can’t be ruled out until autopsy results are received. He said the case remains a homicide investigation, until proven otherwise.
