ST. LOUIS (AP) - Seven corrections officers at a St. Louis jail have been fired for using excessive force after apparently retaliating against an inmate who attacked an employee.

St. Louis Director of Public Safety Richard Gray told KMOV-TV (https://bit.ly/1EPJRir ) Friday that seven jailers at the City Workhouse Jail were fired for using excessive force after a 2013 incident in which an inmate attacked an employee at the jail. The employee was not seriously hurt, but at some point after the assault the seven jailers beat the inmate in a suspected act of revenge.

The jailers were fired in April.

Gray says the inmate who was allegedly retaliated against didn’t cooperate with authorities. No charges have been filed.
