LYONS, Ore. (AP) - The mayor of Lyons, Oregon, resigned this week during a hastily scheduled special meeting.

The Statesman Journal reports (https://is.gd/mJ6gR9 ) that Mayor Dan Burroughs cited a dysfunctional city council as his reason for stepping down Thursday night.

In an email Friday, Burroughs said it was honor to be elected twice, but he’s tired of being questioned and threatened at every public meeting.

City recorder Kristin Rea quit Wednesday, saying stress caused by hostile council members led to emotional and medical issues.

Lyons is a community of about 1,200 residents. It is 25 miles southeast of Salem.
