TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - Tybee Island officials want their own officers to police a bridge that’s recently seen six-hour traffic jams.

The Savannah Morning News (https://bit.ly/1L9anYx ) reports traffic jams have repeatedly held up motorists trying to enter or leave the beach town at peak times.

Mayor Jason Buelterman said he is working to draw up an agreement with Chatham County that would allow Tybee Island police to respond to accidents and other traffic issues outside their jurisdiction on U.S. 80.

The mayor said county police are not making the bridge a priority.
