BRISTOL, Va. (AP) - Alpha Natural Resources has cut 71 jobs at four coal mines in Kentucky and Virginia.

Bristol, Virginia-based Alpha attributes the cuts to weak demand for coal. The company says the underground mines will continue operations.

Media outlets report that Alpha announced the cuts on Friday at the Tiller No. 1 mine in Tazewell County, Dorchester mine in Wise County, EMC No. 9 mine in Knott County, Kentucky, and North Fork mine in Letcher County, Kentucky.
