WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A Georgia man missing since Monday has been found dead in Haywood County.

Media reports say the body of 46-year-old Douglas Michael Shockley was found by search and rescue crews in the Crabtree community Saturday afternoon. Deputies say he was found about three-fourths of a mile from where his pickup truck was discovered Thursday.

Authorities say they believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot. An autopsy will be performed to confirm the cause of death.

Haywood County sheriff’s office says more than 50 search and rescue workers had been combing woods and rocky terrain in the area since Thursday after Shockley’s vehicle was found parked on the side of a road.

Shockley was reported missing from Cherokee County, Georgia, Monday morning.
