LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A flash flood warning is in effect for all or parts of 12 Arkansas counties due to heavy rainfall in the area.

The National Weather Service says thunderstorms dropped heavy rainfall in western and northern Arkansas Sunday morning. Forecasters say 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen in the past three hours and additional rain is expected.

Flash flooding is likely in the area as more rain falls on the already saturated ground. While precipitation will taper off in some areas, it will take time for high water to run off.

Meanwhile, a flash flood watch is in effect through Monday evening for much of central and northeastern Arkansas. Forecasters say multiple rounds of showers are expected to drop as much as 3 inches of rain on the area.
