MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former military leaders say obesity is the leading reason young people in Alabama cannot join the military.

Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Allen Peck and other officials plan to unveil a report Monday with a state-by-state breakdown showing the proportion of young adults ineligible for military service because they are too fat.

The report also discusses the impact of obesity on active-duty service members.

The retired military leaders are part of an organization lobbying for new nutritional standards for schools.
