CLEVELAND (AP) - Amid hopes for peaceful protests, a judge announces he will not be ready to announce a verdict Monday for a Cleveland patrol officer on trial in the deaths of two unarmed citizens.

Judge John O’Donnell previously said he would not deliver his verdict on Michael Brelo’s (BREE’-lowz) voluntary manslaughter charges before Monday.

The judge said in a Saturday statement that the verdict will not be ready Monday, and it could take days or even weeks more.

Brelo is accused of firing the final 15 rounds of a 137-shot barrage that killed Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams at the end of a high-speed chase in 2012.

Mayor Frank Jackson says he expects any protests over the verdict to be peaceful and not undermine progress officials have made in improving police-community relations.
