KILLINGWORTH, Conn. (AP) - One motorcyclist from New Jersey has died and another has been severely injured in a crash involving an SUV in Connecticut.

State police say a group of motorcyclists was riding north on Route 81 in Killingworth on Sunday afternoon when there was a head-on collision with a Honda Pilot driven by a 16-year-old youth.

Forty-seven-year-old Karen Minutella and 47-year-old John Healey, both of Bayonne, New Jersey, were thrown off their motorcycles. Minutella was pronounced dead at the scene and Healey was flown by helicopter to Hartford Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A third rider suffered a minor injury when he tried to avoid the wreck and was thrown from his motorcycle.

The driver and passengers in the SUV were not injured.

The accident is under investigation.
