CUMBERLAND, R.I. (AP) - A three-alarm fire at a Cumberland apartment building quickly spread through the top floors and to the outside deck, but no residents were injured.

Authorities said Sunday all nine residents of the 6-unit home made it out safely, including two cats.

John Escobar was driving past the building when he noticed the fire and alerted residents.

Four families lived in the building including a woman who is seven-months pregnant.

Several firefighters were treated for exhaustion.

Nancy Martins told WPRI-TV she was at work when she received the call from her son that their building was on fire. Martins says she’s thankful her children and cat are safe.

The cause is under investigation.
