ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A 1-year-old child is in stable condition after falling from a second-story balcony.

KOAT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1HpPg63 ) that the infant fell Sunday at the Jefferson Commons Apartment Complex in northeast Albuquerque.

Albuquerque police were called to the scene where witnesses said they heard the sound of the boy falling onto the rocks below the balcony.

14-year-old Kristyn Wilson says she picked the baby up and saw blood gushing from the back of his head. She ran to the mother’s apartment and handed her the infant.

The child was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital and appears to have only suffered a cut.

Officials say the child’s injuries were not the result of malicious child abuse.

Detectives are investigating to determine if charges will be filed.
