BELTON, S.C. (AP) - A Belton police officer was hurt when his cruiser collided with a pickup truck near Anderson.

Belton Police Chief Tommy Clamp told local media outlets Sunday that the officer has been released from the hospital and will return to duty.

The officer was responding to an emergency when the wreck happened late Saturday night. Clamp said the officer had just left the Anderson County jail and was responding to help the only other officer on duty in Belton respond to a burglary call.

Troopers said the other driver was in critical but stable condition at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
