SYLACAUGA, Ala. (AP) - Scores of Alabama workers are being affected by Blue Bell’s partial shutdown following a listeria outbreak linked to its ice cream.

WBRC-TV (https://bit.ly/1dfAySn ) quotes Blue Bell Cream Creameries as saying 40 people are being laid off at its plant in Sylacauga.

The plant is temporarily closed, and another 182 workers are being furloughed temporarily.

The company says there will be another five layoffs and 70 furloughs at other facilities in Alabama.

The Texas-based company is cutting more than a third of its workforce. The move comes after a series of listeria illnesses linked to its ice cream prompted a nationwide recall of all its products.

Production facilities in Oklahoma and Texas are also closed.
