BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - The new mayor of Biloxi has taken his oath of office, less than a week after winning the job in a special election.

Andrew “FoFo” Gilich was sworn in during a small ceremony Monday morning at the Biloxi Visitors Center.

A second, and larger, inauguration, for the general public, will be held Wednesday at the Biloxi Civic Center.

Gilich received 60 percent of the vote in a runoff last Tuesday to defeat fellow Republican Windy Swetman, a Harrison County supervisor. Ten candidates originally ran, and they were the top two.

Gilich will serve the final two years of a term started by former Mayor A.J. Holloway, who resigned earlier this year. Holloway, also a Republican, had been mayor since 1993.
