LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A Little Rock doctor has been arrested in an investigation into drugs obtained through fraudulent prescriptions.
Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley says police began investigating the doctor following an overdose death last year. The death was suspected to be connected to a fraudulent prescription from the doctor.
A joint investigation was conducted between the sheriff’s office and the Drug Enforcement Administration Diversion Group into the scheme believed to be led by the doctor. Staley says 187 fraudulent prescriptions have been filled and distributed in Lonoke County.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the doctor faces 187 counts of fraudulent practices. He was booked into the county jail, where he was being held without bail pending an initial court appearance Tuesday.
Staley said an investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected soon.
