NEWCOMB, N.Y. (AP) - The Department of Environmental Conservation is taking public comments through June 12 on an updated management plan for Camp Santanoni in the Adirondacks.
A public meeting is scheduled May 28 at the Newcomb Fire Department.
The 32-acre historic area includes a stone gate lodge complex, a farm complex, and a log lodge and other buildings on Newcomb Lake. It’s a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers and cross-country skiers.
The plan calls for a new pole barn for maintenance equipment, a fire alarm system and fire retardant coatings on buildings, and building a replica dairy barn on the surviving foundation of the historic barn.
Camp Santanoni is a National Historic Landmark and considered one of the most sophisticated and distinguished of all of the surviving great camps in the Adirondacks.
