MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Police have identified a man shot and wounded by police during a confrontation at a motel northwest of Atlanta as 30-year old Joshua Duvall of Stockbridge.

Police say the gunfire happened shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday at the motel along Windy Hill Road, in Cobb County. Police say the man was shot in the stomach and taken to Kennestone Hospital.

WSB-TV reports that one of the officers was treated for multiple injuries but was expected to recover.

Police say officers were called the hotel to investigate reports of a suspicious person who they say began attacking them.

Police say the officers tried to deploy their TASER devices, but they were ineffective. Police said that when the suspect began to physically overpower the officers and while charging at one of them, an officer fired.
