CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A 27-year-old Charleston man has been charged with first-degree murder in the heroin overdose death of a 43-year-old woman.
The Charleston Gazette (https://bit.ly/1S0qqfV) reports that Steven Craig Coleman was charged over the weekend after Charleston police received the final state medical examiner’s report on the Feb. 14 death of Melody Ann Oxley.
A criminal complaint states that Coleman gave his father heroin and he and Oxley injected the drug.
Oxley was found dead when paramedics arrived.
Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Chuck Miller said murder charges in the case of a fatal overdose are not uncommon.
The post-mortem listed Oxley’s manner of death as heroin abuse. She was the mother of five.
