RUSTON, La. (AP) - An 11-year-old child from Ruston died in a flash flood after waters swept a vehicle he was in toward a creek in northern Louisiana.
The Shreveport Times (https://bit.ly/1QZurzW ) reports Ruston police were notified of the vehicle being swept down the creek Monday morning. At the time, the vehicle was occupied by an adult, an 11-year-old and a 7-year-old.
Rustin chief deputy Clint Williams says the driver escaped from the vehicle as it was being swept down the creek. She was eventually able to pull herself from the creek a distance away, but the children were accounted for.
Fire department crews located the 7-year-old hanging from a tree and found the body of the 11-year-old passenger still in the vehicle when creek waters receded.
The 7-year-old was in stable condition.
