LABELLE, Fla. (AP) - Officials say a two-year-old and his four-year-old brother drowned in a canal near a Hendry County labor camp.
The drowning happened Sunday at the Duda & Sons Inc. labor camp for farmworkers. Deputies say the drowning was accidental.
The boys attended a nearby Redlands Migrant Christian Association day care. The Department of Children and Families said the agency did not have prior involvement with the family.
WINK TV (https://bit.ly/1FoL446) reports that the drownings happened behind the trailers on the property where the little boys’ parents were staying.
Authorities say both parents thought the children were with the other parent. At the time they were noticed missing, the parents attempted to locate them for about one hour before law enforcement was called.
