MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - The trial of two southern New Jersey brothers charged in the killing on an aspiring rapper is underway.

The Press of Atlantic City reports (https://bit.ly/1QZviAB ) Hasan and Jamal Bruce’s murder trial began Monday. Hasan Bruce’s attorney, Robert Gamburg, says a judge will decide the case because a jury “may be swayed by emotion.”

Prosecutors say 19-year-old Zachary Taylor received a call on June 2012 from Hasan Bruce and, after becoming agitated, he grabbed his gun. Prosecutors say Hasan Bruce shot him in the neck.

Gamburg says Taylor brought it on himself.

Jamal Bruce’s attorney, David Bahuriak, says Taylor’s gun was covered in blood because it was “in his hand when he was shot.” Bahuriak says his client didn’t have a gun on him and it “wasn’t his fight.”
