COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Pentagon officials say a Colorado sailor died at a hotel in Bahrain after falling from a hotel balcony.
The Gazette of Colorado Springs reports (https://bit.ly/1Gl4Jmj ) that Petty Officer 3rd Class Devon J. Doyle died Saturday while on liberty in Manama, Bahrain. The 21-year-old was a sailor aboard the destroyer USS Farragut.
Bahrain is a popular liberty port for American ships in the Gulf. Manama is home to the American 5th Fleet, which oversees sailors battling Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria.
The Farragut raced to the Persian Gulf last month along with the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. Its first mission was to counter Iranian actions to aid insurgents in Yemen.
On April 28, The Farragut was sent to shadow Iranian navy vessels that seized a cargo vessel.
