Arlington County Police officers fatally shot a man while responding to an apartment for a report of a domestic violence call Tuesday morning.

Two officers were injured during the incident, one sustaining a “severe facial laceration” while the other was hit with a Taser, according to police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Officers were called to respond to the 4200 block of 2nd Road North in Ballston at 11 a.m. after reports of screaming that was coming from inside the apartment.

The man killed, who has not been identified, was shot in the chest during the incident, Mr. Sternbeck said. A woman who was inside the apartment also sustained minor injuries.

Mr. Sternbeck was unable to immediately provide details of the interaction the responding officers had with the man or to say whether the man had a weapon. It was also unclear whether the Taser that struck the officer was deployed by the officer or someone else.

Arlington County Fire Department transported the injured man to Virginia Hospital Center before he died.

The woman was taken to police headquarters to be interviewed.
