CUDAHY, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials have arrested the mother of a 3-year-old boy who was stabbed and is not expected to survive.

Deputy Crystal Hernandez says 23-year-old Michelle Betancourt of Cudahy was taken into custody Tuesday morning for investigation of attempted murder and held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Deputies responding to a rescue call Monday night found the young victim, who had been stabbed in the upper torso.

Hernandez says investigators have not released any information about a weapon or motive.

Detectives interviewed family members who were in the residence at the time of the stabbing. The investigation is ongoing.

Hernandez says the boy is not expected to recover.

A telephone listing for Betancourt could not be immediately located.
