COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Secretary of State Mark Hammond is in Washington, where he’s scheduled to discuss what’s being called a major consumer fraud case involving the state.

The Federal Trade Commission has called a Tuesday news conference in the nation’s capital with Hammond, Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Jessica Rich and Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring.

A representative of the Better Business Bureau is also slated to attend.

An announcement says the fraud case affected consumers from across the nation.
