ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A former rival will serve as a leader of the transition team for Anchorage Mayor-elect Ethan Berkowitz.
KTUU reports (https://is.gd/LH8Och) Andrew Halcro will serve as a chairman of the transition team along with Joelle Hall and Ethan Schutt.
Halcro, a former Republican state lawmaker and Anchorage chamber official, ran against Berkowitz in this spring’s mayoral election, but came in third.
Berkowitz, an Anchorage Democrat who previously served in the state House, had to face assembly member Amy Dembowski, a Republican, in a runoff, and Halcro endorsed him in the second election. Berkowitz handily won the runoff.
Hall is the operations director for the Alaska AFL-CIO. Schutt is with Cook Inlet Regional, Inc.
Berkowitz takes office July 1, replacing Mayor Dan Sullivan.
