TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - In a story May 15 about the death of a defendant in a sexual assault case, The Associated Press reported erroneously when in Gary Talkington’s court case his body was found. It was as he failed to show up for his conviction, not his sentencing.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Man who skipped court in assault case found dead in Tucson desert

Man who failed to show up to hear verdict on sex charges found dead in Tucson desert

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A man who failed to show up in court for his sexual assault case has been found dead in the Tucson desert.

Pima County Sheriff’s officials say the body of 60-year-old Gary Talkington was located by joggers around 11 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say Talkington’s body was hunched over on the passenger side of a car.

They say there was a lot of blood around his body, which showed obvious signs of trauma that appears to have been self-inflicted.

Sheriff’s officials say what appears to be a suicide note also was found at the scene.

Talkington was the former owner of an in-home daycare facility.

He skipped out on his court date to hear the verdict in Pima County Superior Court as a jury convicted him on six counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
