COCHECTON, N.Y. (AP) - Police are investigating the cause of a motorcycle crash that claimed the lives of two upstate New York residents over the weekend.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Gus Kerkoulas of Hortonville was driving the motorcycle when it crashed around 4 p.m. Saturday on Route 97 in the rural town of Cochecton, on the Pennsylvania border 90 miles northwest of New York City.

Deputies say the motorcycle ran off the road on a curve, ejecting Kerkoulas and his passenger, 38-year-old Emmy Curran of Cochecton.

Kerkoulas was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say Curran was taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center, where she died Sunday afternoon.

Police say they don’t believe any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
