SOLDOTNA, Alaska (AP) - An Alaska State Trooper and another man were treated for non-life threatening injuries after a two-car accident on the Sterling Highway.

Troopers say in a web posting that 59-year-old Edmond Mallette Jr. of Soldotna was driving a sport-utility vehicle southbound at Mile 99 of the highway when he missed a turn.

He was attempting to turn around in the roadway, but didn’t see an oncoming trooper patrol car running with emergency lights flashing en route to call.

Troopers say Mallette’s vehicle hit the passenger side of the patrol car, and both vehicles went into the ditch and rolled.

Both Mallette and trooper Thad Hamilton were taken to the hospital for treatment. Both were wearing seat belts.

Troopers say both vehicles were totaled, and the accident remains under investigation.
