ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) - A neighbor of a Maine man charged with killing his wife on Christmas Day 2013 says he awoke to a loud noise and profanity on the day of the wife’s death.

WLBZ-TV reports on Tuesday the neighbor says he looked outside and saw Christopher Saenz, the man accused, slamming the door. Saenz then told him his wife, Hillary, may have hit her head on the bed.

The couple’s daughter and son testified Monday that Saenz physically abused Hillary Saenz in the month leading up to her death in Ellsworth.

Prosecutors say Saenz was angry because he felt his wife was having an affair. An autopsy revealed multiple injuries including brain bleeding. The children, ages 8 and 12 at the time, are in the care of relatives.
