MIDDLEBOURNE, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association has donated more than $590,000 to the Tyler County Commission to upgrade and modernize the county’s records system and make it available online.

The donation is the result of discussions between the county and the natural gas industry that began in early 2013. The upgrade allows the county to digitize and preserve the historical real property records that which the county clerk has responsibility to maintain.

The modernization project will allow residents to go online to search for, read and print records from their own computers instead of going to the courthouse.
