SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Syracuse University is suing to find out what happened to nearly $2 million a professor set aside to fund three professor positions.

The Post-Standard reports (https://bit.ly/1PSz5NB ) William Fleming left $2.8 million to partially fund three spots in the university’s Department of Fine Arts for two decades after he died in 2001.

But two trustees in the William Fleming Educational Trust told the university last year that $963,000 was left. That would only fund one professorship.

Syracuse officials say they asked the trustees for reports on the trust’s assets. The university’s lawyer says in court papers that the reports haven’t been given to the university.

One of the trustees, Frank Macomber, says they’ve given the university everything it has asked for. He says the money ran out, but won’t say how.
