COLE, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says one person died when a vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in McClain County, just south of Oklahoma City.
Capt. Paul Timmons says the person was in a vehicle early Wednesday when it was swept into a creek near the town of Cole. Timmons says two other people in the vehicle were rescued. No names were immediately released.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says about a dozen state and U.S. highways are closed due to flooding or damage from the rains, primarily in south-central and southeastern Oklahoma.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warnings for several creeks and rivers in southeastern Oklahoma and northern Texas - including for the Red River that serves as the border between Oklahoma and Texas.
