CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Cape Girardeau police are investigating after a junior high school student was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/1FvKhyv ) reports that the accident happened Tuesday as a girl was crossing a street near her school. The girl is hospitalized but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say the car and driver suspected in the crime were found later Tuesday. The man is in custody but formal charges have not been filed.
