COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A central Ohio man has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 18 years after admitting he was responsible for the drive-by shooting of a 19-year-old Ethiopian immigrant last year.

A judge in Columbus sentenced 21-year-old Anthony Monaco on Tuesday after his guilty plea to charges including murder with a gun specification.

The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1R14Ma3 ) reports that Dinkisra Mengistu was shot in the head on March 9, 2014, on the city’s far north side.

A prosecutor said the reasons for the shooting remain unclear. The two men didn’t know each other but attended the same party with separate groups of young people at a hotel prior to the incident.

Mengistu’s family moved to the United States from Ethiopia when he was in middle school.
