ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - A central Indiana man has pleaded guilty in a case accusing him of trying to cause his pregnant girlfriend to have a miscarriage by poisoning her.

The Herald Bulletin (https://bit.ly/1Bbz5BN ) reports that 25-year-old Jarod Rebuck of Elwood entered a guilty plea Monday to a charge of attempted feticide. Under the terms of a plea deal, his conviction will be expunged if he successfully completes treatment assigned by the mental health court.

“He has been on proper medication for some time,” said Bryan Williams, an attorney representing Rebuck.

Police arrested him in December after his girlfriend notified them of a strange odor emitting from a drink he prepared for her. She also discovered evidence on his phone that he had been search for ways to cause a miscarriage.

The plea agreement also discusses a no contact order between the couple that will be addressed by a mental health court judge.

“They should not be interacting,” said Madison County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Rosemary Khoury.

However, Khoury said the girlfriend is in favor of the plea agreement.

Rebuck will be sentenced on June 8.
