ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A $14 million project in downtown Asheville scheduled for completion this spring remains unfinished, and engineers say faulty concrete slabs will likely have to be removed.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/1eg6xlG) Wyatt Stevens, the attorney representing one of the Eagle Market Place project’s development partners, said their consulting engineers are recommending demolition and replacement of the first and second floor concrete slabs. Replacement will cost nearly $3 million.
Work stopped on the project last October after problems arose with the concrete. There’s been no work since.
Planned and discussed for nearly three decades, the Eagle Market Place project will have commercial spots on the first floor and 62 “workforce housing” apartments for working class people. The new building will anchor “the Block,” the historically African-American business district in downtown Asheville.
