SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A former Shelby County employee is accused of stealing nearly $24,000 in taxpayer money.

Multiple news sources report police spent months on an investigation after 30-year-old Jenny King was fired in December 2014. Authorities say they found 74 forged documents from King, including checks, time cards and a fake employee profile.

King was hired as the Shelby County finance officer in April 2013. Police say funds started to be taken shortly after she accepted the position, leading to her dismissal.

King was released from the Shelby County Detention Center after posting a surety bond. She will face a judge in Shelby County District Court on June 16. It is unclear if she has a lawyer.
