ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) - A jury has acquitted a Maine man of vehicular manslaughter after the defense argued that prosecutors failed to show who was driving.
A jury on Wednesday found 23-year-old Steven Moon of Surry not guilty of aggravated drunken driving, in addition to manslaughter, in the crash that killed 27-year-old Caleb Foster of Stonington.
Moon’s mother, Martha Moon, told WNSX-FM that a huge weight has been lifted from her family’s shoulders.
But Foster’s wife said she still doesn’t feel she knows the truth of what happened on that night.
Defense attorney Walt McKee said his client was drunk during the crash but says another person in the car was the one driving and “had everything to gain” from lying about Moon’s role.
