FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A Larimer County sheriff’s deputy has been cleared of wrongdoing in a high-speed chase that ended in the death of a Fort Collins teenager.

The Coloradoan reports (https://goo.gl/PBYtPp ) police investigators determined the deputy appropriately initiated, and later terminated, the April 26 chase with 19-year-old Miguel Perez. The sheriff’s office said in a statement Wednesday that the deputy decided to end the chase when Perez continued to accelerate and it became clear he had no plans to stop.

Investigators have not said how the deputy ended the chase.

Perez, who had missed a court date in an ongoing alcohol possession case, sped away from the deputy who was trying to make a traffic stop. He took off and hit speeds in excess of 100 mph before he crashed.
