FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) - Police have arrested a Leominster man in connection with what authorities say was the drug-related killing of a Fitchburg man earlier this month.

The Worcester district attorney’s office says 28-year-old Andrew Mathieu is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on murder and firearms charges in connection with the May 12 shooting of Roy Rivera.

Rivera was shot in broad daylight and was found by police slumped over the steering wheel of a car. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Mathieu was arrested Tuesday without incident following a police investigation. It was the city’s first homicide of the year.

It’s not known if he has a lawyer.

The investigation into the death is ongoing.
