FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne’s mayor has named a committee to consider the possibility of building a 5,500-seat downtown arena.

Mayor Tom Henry announced Wednesday he’s formed a 16-member committee to look at a possible arena costing between $48 million and $63 million. A feasibility proposes locating the arena just west of the Grand Wayne Center convention hall.

The city’s Memorial Coliseum has a seating capacity of 13,000 and its Embassy Theatre has a seating capacity of nearly 2,500.

The study says the coliseum is the city’s primary sport and entertainment venue, but not necessarily ideally suited for some of the events hosted there.

The review panel includes representatives from the coliseum, local companies and the Fort Wayne TinCaps minor league baseball team.(backslash)
